If geographical names worked for Boston, Chicago, Alabama and Kansas, why not be ambitious? This trio is actually based in Toronto, its sound is out of the California soft-rock school, and it is not at all inscrutable, only likable. The musicians' backgrounds are varied. Keyboardist Bill King, from Jeffersonville, Ind., has worked with Linda Ronstadt and Jam's Joplin. Guitarist Chris Kearney, a Toronto native, is a sometime screen composer and crony of Gordon Lightfoot's. Guitarist Danny McBride, also from Toronto, has toured in Jesus Christ Superstar and recorded with Dr. John. They all compose and sing, quite entertainingly. If their lyrics are run-of-the-jukebox, their rhythms are contagious. The only question is, if they succeed, will they be followed by groups called Costa Rica, Upper Volta and Liechtenstein?
