Anthony Hopkins, as the deformed Quasimodo, leads a bell-ringing cast—including Derek (I, Claudius) Jacobi, Lesley-Anne Down and John Gielgud—in a powerful retelling of the Victor Hugo classic. Down's pristine Esmerelda may be the most ladylike gypsy ever filmed, but that's nearly the only quibble with this lush production.
