Mike, the Beach Boy who always sounds like he needs a hit of Dristan, is trying to keep his musical career above water with a solo album. Most of the tunes are reminiscent of the stuff Mike's cousin, Brian Wilson, wrote nearly two decades ago; there is a remnant of the old Beach Boys sound, but the harmonies are not as crisp or alive. Love's cover of Neil Sedaka's Calendar Girl is hardly timeless. The title cut is as thrilling as a faded tan. On the jacket, Love, 40, is shown on the strand at twilight. The sunny American surf sound he helped define has sadly arrived at just about the same low point. This misguided LP isn't worth it for Love or money.
