Picks and Pans Review: Shadows

Gordon Lightfoot

The Toronto-based veteran still can turn out glittering, crystal-clear folk-pop. There are touches of country thrown in too, like PeeWee Charles' steel guitar and dobro on the leisurely All I'm After, Triangle and I'll Do Anything. Baby Step Back recalls Lightfoot's well-known hit Sundown. But the best cuts on this LP, In My Fashion and Blackberry Wine, feature acoustic guitars and shimmering harmonies. His album sales may have plummeted, but Lightfoot remains a quiet, accomplished artist.
