Lou Ann Barton
Barton, a 28-year-old Texan, has the power to turn those shards of crystal on Ella's tape commercials into splinters. It's a husky rhythm-and-blues voice that is two parts grit, one part heartbreak and one part getyoassouttahere. Co-producers Jerry Wexler (who's worked with Aretha Franklin) and Eagle Glenn Frey have added band instrumentals that snap, crackle and rock. I'm Old Enough and The Doodle Song are both scorchers composed by Scotland's answer to Bob Seger, Frankie Miller. There's more, and it all sounds refreshing. This woman could even put some spirit into You Light Up My Life.
