Huey Lewis & the News
If you took the cockney snarl out of Elvis Costello's New Wavy voice, it would sound a lot like Lewis. That's no accident since Huey played some sessions with Costello and the Attractions, and his buoyant pop tunes are stylistic cousins of Elvis'. Lewis, 30, co-wrote half of this collection's 10 tunes and is the News' main producer. He's a San Francisco native but has apprenticed in Europe with artists like Nick Lowe, Thin Lizzy and Costello. He doesn't have Elvis' stiletto wit for lyrics, and this LP, Lewis' second, won't revolutionize pop, but it is craftsmanlike and full of peppy melodies.
