Juice Newton
Okay, maybe Rosanne doesn't have the field to herself. Newton has vocal strength and a subtle lyric sense and seems settled in her countrified style, She raises echoes of Brenda Lee on Break It to Me Gently, rocks energetically on Love's Been a Little Bit Hard on Me and reads a lot into Bob McDill's I'm Dancing as Fast as I Can. There are also three exemplary songs by Newton's backup singer and longtime lover, Otha Young.
