Picks and Pans Review: Inside

Ronnie Milsap

Even with a slightly more aggravated case of the regrets than he usually has, Milsap can charm the stripes right off a skunk. His unusually downbeat material includes the Burt Bacharach-Bob Hilliard tune Any Day Now, Wrong End of the Rainbow by Milton Blackford and Richard Leigh and the irresistible You Took Her Off My Hands (Now Take Her Off My Mind) by Harlan Howard, Skeets McDonald and Wynn Stewart. The backing features sax solos by Ronnie Eades and Quitman Dennis. The mood is of bittersweet triumph: Despite everything, we'll all survive to hear a few more country music laments tomorrow.
