Picks and Pans Review: Tales of the Gold Monkey

ABC's attempt to clone Raiders of the Lost Ark-after the swift demise of the network's similar Callahan—features a handsome hero (Star Trek's Stephen Collins), a monocled Nazi (Magnum, P.I's John Hillerman in a guest appearance) and a villainous Eurasian princess (Marta Dubois) combing the South Seas in 1938 in search of a legendary simian statuette. But in the networks' scramble this season to duplicate the movie's breathless pace, this series mostly meanders. (Premiere)
