Picks and Pans Review: The Mysterious Stranger
PBS (check local listings)
Part of the Mark Twain series, this adaptation of the author's perplexing last novel features Chris (Meatballs) Makepeace as a timid printer's apprentice lifted out of Hannibal, Mo. in 1850 and set down in an Austrian castle in the Middle Ages. The actors, including Lance (James at 15) Kerwin and Fred (The Munsters) Gwynne, work furiously but futilely to bring the tale to life.
