Picks and Pans Review: Doug Henning's Magic on Broadway

UPDATED 11/15/1982 at 01:00 AM EST Originally published 11/15/1982 at 01:00 AM EST

NBC (10-11 p.m. ET)

The "how-did-he-do-that?" stunts of magic man Doug Henning highlight this special using lots of Broadway talent. Ann Reinking turns into a dalmatian. Andrea McArdle, singing Tomorrow (what else?), transmogrifies into the 1982 Annie, Allison Smith. Sexy "Nine" star Anita Morris is set on fire in a box along with $ 1 million, but both reappear unsinged in a safe dangling above the audience. The show is a bit heavy on glitz, but Henning's appealing personality manages to levitate it.
