The unthinkable becomes horrifically real in this half-hour BBC documentary that simulates the destruction of London by a one-megaton nuclear weapon. Picking up where Jonathan Schell's 1982 book Fate of the Earth left off, the scenes of explosion, fire and fallout are rendered even more chilling by the narrator's detached recitation of casualty and damage statistics. Following the documentary, Richmond Times-Dispatch correspondent Charles McDowell anchors a discussion of America's civil defense policies.
