Appalachian treacle heads the menu this Thanksgiving as the Walton clan face a slew of troubles that threaten to put a damper on the holiday. John Boy (Robert Wightman) is suffering from writer's block, Jim Bob (David Harper) is going broke, Erin (Mary Beth McDonough) is having a marital spat, and it's all up to Papa Ralph Waite to save the day with a main course of homilies and a side order of ready cash. The script is as insipid as a plate of warmed-over stuffing, but the cast is as earnest as ever in this harmless holiday special.
