Picks and Pans Review: Stefanie Powers
Erik Satie's haunting Deux Préludes Posthumes et Une Gnossienne still reaches Powers' heart of hearts: "When I was living on a mountain in Malibu, I used to play it very loudly. It sent my spirit flying." The movie she's still faithful to is Stanley Kubrick's 1968 epic 2001: A Space Odyssey, which featured ex-husband Gary Lockwood. "A landmark film," Stef enthuses. The short stories of Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges make Powers' favorite reading: "He once said he realized after he went blind how much his vision had interfered with his seeing." As for TV, the ABC star eschews network loyalty. "I love the in-depth investigation on CBS' 60 Minutes," she says, "I'm a newsaholic."
