Picks and Pans Review: Dan Rather
Busy as he is, Rather reads widely. His favorites: And More by Andy Rooney by his CBS colleague, The Book of Laughter and Forgetting, a book of reflective stories by Czechoslovakian exile Milan Kundera, and A River Runs Through It, fictionalized memoirs by former University of Chicago professor Norman Maclean ("It smells of the outdoors"). His TV choice showed no false modesty—60 Minutes. Among records, he liked everything by Joe Ely because he "echoes a misspent youth," and his film choice was Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. "I, like everyone," Rather admits, "love to indulge in childhood fantasies."
