Picks and Pans Review: The Last Unicorn

UPDATED 01/10/1983 at 01:00 AM EST Originally published 01/10/1983 at 01:00 AM EST

A prime example of why animated films are an endangered species, this feature (taken from Peter S. Beagle's novel of the same name) is tedious, despite the star-studded cast offering support for its characters. Mia Farrow plays the fragile unicorn in search of her vanquished breed, Christopher Lee is a hapless king, and Jeff Bridges is a prince. Robert Klein does a quick talk-on as a schizophrenic butterfly. Despite the celebrated contributors, The Last Unicorn is an also-ran. The story is less than engaging, and the animation is merely the superficial stuff of Saturday morning cartoon fare. Kids or adults who have experienced the wonder of Disney's animated classics will not be impressed. (G)
