This is an aimless and excruciatingly dull premiere of an eight-part miniseries chronicling Winston Churchill's years as an out-of-power politician between 1929 and 1939. As Winston, veteran actor Robert Hardy flits about from royal hunting parties to Hollywood movie sets to American lecture tours, but the production remains mired in a dramatic desert.
