Linda (Alice) Lavin switches to melodrama in this TV movie about a childless jewelry designer forced to raise her husband's illegitimate 11-year-old daughter after the mother dies of a brain tumor. Tracey Gold steals the show as the intractable kid, product of Daddy's secret liaison, and Tony Lo Bianco is convincing as the father, but Linda Lavin's stock sitcom expressions mar an otherwise effective tearjerker.
