Hamilton, 28, born in Providence, R.I., has settled down among the Concord Jazz label's musicians, who celebrate rather than imitate the greats of the '30s and '40s. Hamilton's tenor sax here leads a quintet through familiar standards such as I Remember You, and the arcane favorites of jazzmen such as Robbins Nest, by Sir Charles Thompson and Illinois Jacquet. Hamilton's tenor is fluid and effectively bluesy; the only complaint jazz fans might have is that he overdoes the subtlety and underdoes the vigor.
