THE SCARLET AND THE BLACK

Based on a true story, this made-for-TV drama stars Gregory Peck as Monsignor Hugh O'Flaherty, the Vatican official who concealed thousands of Allied POW escapees in German-occupied Rome during World War II. The film, shot on location, also features Christopher Plummer as an SS colonel and John Gielgud as Pope Pius XII.
