Based on the 1972 autobiography of 1930s film star Frances Farmer, this TV movie is just as sobering as the current movie about Farmer starring Jessica Lange, whose acclaimed performance in the role is a tough act to follow. Even so, Susan Blakely gives a convincing portrayal of the ill-fated actress who succumbed to the destructive influence of her domineering mother, played superbly by Lee Grant.
