Howard E. (Ragtime) Rollins brings a formidable presence to the role of Medgar Evers, the civil rights leader who fought for integration in Mississippi before his assassination in June 1963. That, unfortunately, is not enough to salvage this plodding and predictable TV movie, which turns Evers into a cardboard saint and defuses a potentially gripping subject in a series of formulaic confrontations. Irene Cara co-stars as Evers' wife, Myrlie.
