by Richard Meyers
The subtitle is The World of Exploitation Films and for fans of such movies as House of Psychotic Women, I Dismember Mama, The Gore Gore Girls, Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster and Door to Door Maniac, this is must reading. Meyers, who has written three other pop culture surveys and three sci-fi novels, set some limits on what he would include: few foreign films, only a brief outline of hard-core pornography and, clearly, no movies of redeeming social value. He doesn't attempt any sort of serious explanation as to why most of these productions make money—the drive-ins can't be doing all this business—but this book could serve as resource material for investigating perverse trends in American society.
