SHOWTIME (4/14)

The 1972 Broadway hit musical about an idealistic son of the emperor Charlemagne and his search for identity has no story to speak of, but it does have a terrific score by Stephen Schwartz, innovative choreography and the amazingly versatile Ben Vereen as the dancing-singing narrator. William Katt is merely so-so, however, in the title role. (Subsequent air dates: 4/20, 4/26, 4/30, 5/2)
