Dispatched by the CIA to kill a renegade American officer in Cambodia, Martin Sheen travels deep into the heart of darkness, where he finds 300-pound Marlon Brando going rather garishly off the deep end. Francis Coppola's 1979 film is marred by a murky ending, but its nightmarish images of the Vietnam War are unforgettable, as is Robert Duvall's Oscar-winning performance as the war-loving Lieutenant Colonel Kilgore.
