Sally Field is a tart with a heart who hooks up with a lunkish drifter (Tommy Lee Jones) for an aimless journey along America's blue highways in Martin Ritt's 1981 film. Field's performance is incandescent, but most of this would-be comedy is a long, plodding detour to nowhere.
