Picks and Pans Review: What Do Men Want from Women

UPDATED 06/13/1983 at 01:00 AM EDT Originally published 06/13/1983 at 01:00 AM EDT

by Robert Masello

Masello writes a calm, sensible column called "His" for Mademoiselle. Letters from readers inspired the topics he chose for this book, such as "Are Looks All That Matter to Men?" and "How to Seduce a Man." What's most appealing is Masello's earnestness in striving—given his usual audience—to understand the female side of the dating, mating and litigating ritual. When a woman phoned for a date, he writes that he learned "One, that it's flattering to be called; two, that it's depressing when it's not the right caller; and three, that it's very difficult indeed to be both honest and considerate." (Ballantine, paper, $4.95)
