Picks and Pans Review: Cave-in

NBC (9-11 p.m. ET)

Directed by disaster maven Irwin Allen (The Poseidon Adventure, The Towering Inferno), this 1979 made-for-TV movie features as its calamity a landslide in a national park cave. Fans of Allen's big-ticket disasters will be disappointed by this small-scale effort, which features seven people trapped in the cavern for two unsuspenseful hours. Viewers can watch the actors swim, crawl and squeeze their way out of danger. The group includes Ray Milland, Leslie Nielsen, Susan Sullivan and Dennis Cole. The ending—the light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak—is predictable, but the show is instructive for those who can never remember the difference between a stalagmite and a stalactite.
