The operas of Gioacchino Rossini are only occasionally performed today, but his highly theatrical overtures are 200-year-old standards. His William Tell Overture became the theme for The Lone Ranger. Sir Georg Solti leads the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in the overtures to five Rossini operas: The Barber of Seville, The Italian Woman in Algiers, Semiramide, The Siege of Corinth and The Thieving Magpie.
