Picks and Pans Review: Cuts Like a Knife

Bryan Adams

A 23-year-old Vancouver native, Adams has made a name for himself on the concert circuit with his good looks, his urgent brand of rock and a posture of stylish rebellion. He certainly hasn't done it with his lyrics. This is his third album, and it is packed with clichés. Exhibit A, from Don't Leave Me Lonely: "We've spent too little time and toO much heartache." When he isn't mauling the language, Adams is aping other artists, among them Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart and Kim Carnes. Adams seems, in fact, to be suffering from a copycat syndrome that gives this collection a second-hand quality.
