The Broadway musical Grease had a slight story propelled by adolescent enthusiasm and not-so-youthful nostalgia. The 1978 movie version (with Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta) became the seventh biggest grosser in box office history. This cynical 1982 sequel—a financial failure—lacks the energy and innocence of the original. The leads, newcomers Maxwell Caulfield and Michelle Pfeiffer, are stifled by an oppressively dumb script. Caulfield plays a shy British student who tries to win Pfeiffer's heart from her hoody boyfriend, Adrian (T.J. Hooker) Zmed. Ticket buyers wisely stayed away in droves. Now the pay-TV audience gets its chance.
