On April 4, 1979 TWA Flight 841 from New York to Minneapolis with 89 passengers aboard suddenly plummeted and fell six and a half miles through the air in 44 seconds. The Boeing 727 was stabilized just two seconds before it would have crashed. This documentary reunites 39 of the passengers and crew from that near disaster in a re-creation of the harrowing incident. Using the interior of a 727 and camera techniques to simulate the view from the falling plane, the program offers dramatic insights into human psychology in lieu of million-dollar special effects. Correspondent Bill Kurtis makes no judgment about who was at fault in the accident, but the psychological repercussions on passengers and crew are thoroughly explored.
