Picks and Pans Review: Rosemary Clooney Sings the Music of Harold Arlen

UPDATED 08/15/1983 at 01:00 AM EDT Originally published 08/15/1983 at 01:00 AM EDT

Rosemary Clooney

Straightforward and understating, Clooney has become one of the most satisfying interpreters of the standard tunes of pop music. This admirable set includes such familiar Arlen melodies as Stormy Weather and Hurray for Love, as well as the infrequently performed Let's Take the Long Way Home. Clooney is backed by a Concord Records band that includes saxophonist Scott Hamilton and cornetist Warren Vaché, who are to a good jazz vocalist what salt and pepper are to a ripe tomato.
