Picks and Pans Review: The Exorcist

It's green pea soup time as Linda Blair runs afoul of Old Nick in this Oscar-nominated 1973 thriller. William Peter Blatty won an Academy Award for the screenplay, adapted from his best-selling novel. As the distraught mom, Ellen Burstyn clucks over her possessed daughter, while Max von Sydow looms as an aged priest trying to beat the devil. William Friedkin directed the monster hit, which scared a lot of moviegoers, but it's a gross-out in the special effects department. (Repeat)
