Picks and Pans Review: Glad to Be Here

Bernard Edwards

Best known as a blues-funk bassist, Edwards unlimbers a quietly seductive vocal style on this LP. He wrote most of the material, which may not have been the year's best decision, since his lyrics run "...seven, eight/ A new dance step we will create." He gets some spirited aid from vocalist Jocelyn Brown, though. Their duet on Smokey Robinson's You've Really Got a Hold on Me is the album's highlight. Edwards' version of his own Hard Loving Man may curl a few female eyelashes, too.
