NBC (10-11 p.m. ET)

Here is a horse opera of a different color. Set on a modern-day Texas ranch, this new serial features an impressive cast and crisp writing. Cybill Shepherd shines as the young widow of ranch owner Wade Champion. Sam (Lifeguard) Elliott is on target as the mysterious drifter, a former love of the ranch cook (Susan Anspach in a touching portrayal), and David Soul is truly soulful as Wade's son. Chuck Connors is the gray-haired villain who wants the ranch for his own dastardly purposes. Move over, Dallas. (Premiere)
