Robert Preston and Patty Duke Astin send up the Old West in this offbeat, affectionate TV movie. Preston is an aging gunfighter hired by Astin, a nun caring for a group of Indian orphans. She wants him to ride shotgun for them on a wagon from Santa Fe to Colorado. The witty screenplay seems tailor-made for Preston, who claims to have learned his Scripture from the label of a liniment bottle. Sally Kellerman has a nice turn as the obligatory madam with a heart of gold.
