Louis (An Officer and a Gentleman) Gossett Jr. offers a fine interpretation of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat in this four-hour TV movie. Like the recent TV movie about Golda Meir, Sadat combines international politics with enlightening biography. The film, which ends with Sadat's assassination in 1981, places him on the side of goodness. It oversimplifies his involvement in the Middle East conflict, but it is nevertheless a compelling portrait of a leader's journey toward peace. Madolyn (Urban Cowboy) Smith plays Sadat's wife, Jihan.
