Picks and Pans Review: Pure Satisfaction

Darnell Williams

Fortunately for him, Williams has other work. He plays Jesse Hubbard, the streetwise black on the TV soap opera All My Children. On this woeful debut LP, he fights a losing battle to stay on pitch. He does some rap singing that makes him sound like a cross between Dick Butkus and Bullwinkle Moose. And he proves that yes you can, if you try hard enough, make a boring version of the old Cat Stevens hit Wild World. Williams' AMC colleague, Debbie Morgan, shows up long enough to upstage him on a duet of the title tune, injecting a musical note into what is otherwise a sad waste of vinyl that might better have gone into seat covers.
