Picks and Pans Review: Wednesday, January 4

CBS (8-8:30 p.m. ET)

Martin Mull brings his whimsical humor to this bright sitcom about a TV feature reporter who is an on-camera expert on "domestic life" but whose own homelife is screwed up. Newcomer Christian Brackett-Zika is Mull's 10-year-old son, the only family member who knows how to manage money. The combination of sweetness and cynicism makes this new entry refreshing. It's less biting than Buffalo Bill but more fun than Goodnight, Bean-town. (Premiere)
