Picks and Pans Review: Pure Wild
Girls Can't Help It
On the order of a New Wave disco group, this female trio turns out danceable music, even if its lyrics are barely literate. For instance, Baby Doll, which is on this mini-LP, was a minor dance-club hit, despite the lines "Grind my body to a halt/If I scream it's not my fault." The album also includes such titles as Rhythm of the Jungle and X Marks the Spot (we can be grateful they spared us "G"). The members of the group are Jacqueline Bucknell, Billie Adams and Samantha Spencer-Lane, all former models and actresses, who met in London and began singing together in 1983. Whether history will come to view the occasion as a cause for great rejoicing remains to be seen, since this overdone debut, while a serviceable party record, doesn't provide much insight into what musical talent the three attractive ladies might have.
