Picks and Pans Review: Sentimental Journeys

PBS (Saturday, March 17, 8 p.m. ET)

If the lyrics on MTV sound silly sometimes, just listen to some of these ditties from the Big Band era, performed by the people who crooned them years ago: Harry Babbitt's Three Little Fishies, Julius LaRosa's Hey, Look Me Over, and Kay Starr and Margaret Whiting singing Side by Side. Some of the other stars shining before a live audience: Tony Martin, Cyd Charisse, Nancy Wilson, Max Morath, Vivian Blaine and "Her Nibs, Miss Georgia Gibbs." They may have gained pounds and lost decibels, but they're so pleased to be back onstage that they're a delight to watch. A real hoot from history.
