Picks and Pans Review: Women Working Home: the Home-Based Business Guide and Directory

by Marion Behr and Wendy Lazar

This is the second edition of a 1981 reference work that is heavy on inspiration. It is for women who labor at home in such fields as typing, arts and crafts, writing, accounting and fashion advising. In the back is a directory with business descriptions of women who conduct services from their homes. Some of the ideas are fresh and imaginative: One woman has a service that provides retired people to house-sit for vacationers; another designs energy-saving plans for homes and office buildings. That woman says she is a "solar consultant." (WWH Press, paper, $12.95)
