by Leslie Linsley

There are many quilt books, but none has a patch on this one. The author provides designs and pattern pieces for 26 of quiltdom's most popular and familiar works. The names roll evocatively: Broken Star, Little Red Schoolhouse, Drunkard's Path, Turkey Tracks, Robbing Peter to Pay Paul, Log Cabin, Tree of Life. For anyone who might like to try a hand at quilt making, this book is the place to start. The instructions are clear and perfectly geared for beginners. (Delacorte, $19.95)
