Straightforward and clearly organized, this collection of information about the 48 major national parks provides most of what any visitor needs to know. The main shortcoming is that the sections on hotel-motel facilities don't list prices. The writing is functional: "If a bear approaches your car, stay inside with the windows closed." But then, when you're zooming along Route 180, what you need is fact, not finesse. (Pocket Books, paper, $3.95)
