Half the national TV audience each night watched the convention. That should come as no surprise—only half of America votes. The networks are crying that the conventions are costing them a fortune. On CBS, Bill Moyers asked: "What will happen to the conventions when they are totally irrelevant?" The network bosses have answered. ABC and NBC (but not CBS) have already declared conventions irrelevant and they vow to give them even less time next time.
