Picks and Pans Review: Charly

Charly McClain

There's nothing really wrong with this album. McClain leans into such typically Nashville-slick tunes as I Know a Good Thing When I Feel It, Come Back (When You Can Stay Forever), I'm Not the Reason (He's Not Your Man) and the Jeff Raymond/Buck Moore song that has one of the cleverest of recent country titles, Some Hearts Get All the Breaks. There's also a warm harmony vocal by Mark Wright on Still a Mystery. All those pluses notwithstanding, there's still something listless about a lot of the album. It inspires the impulse to yell at the turntable, "Come on, Charly, get into it." (Epic)
