PBS (Sundays, 9 p.m. ET)

And here's a more genteel farce, the pleasant and entertaining story of an English minister, Donald Pleasence, a sweet, innocent, immensely moral man—"He has persistent bouts of Christianity," moans his bishop—who gets caught in the middle of his future son-in-law's self-righteous crusade against the church. Pleasence manages to make his character look gentle without looking brain-damaged; as always, he makes acting look easy. The series, based on Anthony Trollope's classics The Warden and Barchester Towers, continues through December 9.
