Jimmy Buffett

A bit of reggae here. A little Beach Boys there. A dash of country and a pinch of rock. That is the basic Buffett recipe, which is cooked up again to good effect in this offering. Mac McAnally's She's Going Out of My Mind and the Buffett-Michael Utley-Will Jennings-Josh Leo song Who's the Blonde Stranger? are highlights, but this album is bright throughout and consistently smooth. McAnally and Wendy Waldman appear among the backup singers, while Buffett himself sounds less like a sailboat salesman than he has at times in the past—no cruising-around tunes—and just sells his songs instead. Buffett is predictable, but he's predictably entertaining too. (MCA)
