Picks and Pans Review: Everything You Wanted to Know About Divorce (but Couldn't Afford to Ask)

Until recently you had to be the wife of an Arab sheik to afford splashy Marvin Mitchelson as your divorce lawyer. Now, for the price of this tape, you too can benefit from the advice of America's foremost spouse buster. "Our intention is to limit through education the personal pain and suffering of divorce," say the makers of this video, and with the nationwide divorce rate at almost 50 percent, their product may well find its market. Using a Phil Donahue format, Mitchelson fields questions from actors posing as ordinary folks entangled in messy divorces. "Say we both have keys to a safety deposit box," says one man. "Should I clean it out?" Better not, because the judge might not like it. "How can I protect myself against my wife's spending on our joint credit cards?" Mitchelson suggests agreeing on limits or closing the accounts. The celebrated lawyer, who is unblushing in his quest for publicity, delivers sound advice on a nasty subject, and thanks to his evident earnestness the tape doesn't turn dreary.
